Activities on a Rainy Day With Children

Rainy days are hideous and a perfect way to make sure your day will be one of complete stress. You would almost thing children do it on purpose: when it’s sunny, they never want to do anything, but as soon as it rains, they proclaim in dramatic tones that they are totally bored. If you are a parent, you will know that you tend to ground your children much more often on a rainy day. It is actually a sense of claustrophobia that causes this, the feeling of being locked in for god knows how long. However, a rainy day really doesn’t have to be the hideous day we believe it to be. There are actually plenty of fun things to do to keep everybody entertained. Let’s take a look at some of the things you could all get involved in.

First of all, you could make your own television show. This is a great activity, because it can keep the kids entertained for hours, due to the fact that there are so many different things to do. First of all, they have to create their TV, which is best done with a cardboard box, and decorate it. Then, they have to come up with a program to present and fully prepare that. Lastly, they actually present it to the rest of the family. Alternatively, you could play board games. It is perhaps best to pick those games that don’t end within five minutes, so opt for things like Monopoly and Risk instead. Kids often love to craft things, enjoying seeing the results of their efforts at the end. Of course, baking is also a great activity. Baking is a great way to do two fabulous things, being crafting and eating, which will keep the ids entertained for ages. To make this even more fun, make sure everybody bakes something for someone else. For example, you could get everybody to make gingerbread men to represent the other members of the family.

Make sure you keep it fun and don’t start doing “useful” things. Unfortunately, grownups tend to use rainy days for boring things that we have put off for too long. For example, we think it is the perfect opportunity to catch up on paperwork or do our administration. We think a rainy day is the perfect day to clean up messy drawers or the cupboard under the stairs. There is no fun in this for children, however, so they will start to misbehave and get into trouble. Whatever you decide to do, it should be something fun that everybody can get involved in. On a rainy day, you can even decide to let out your inner child and go dance in the rain or jump in muddy puddles.
